Disc Golf
At our July 2026 SACK Class, our guest speaker explained why disc golf could be a good activity for people with Parkinson’s Disease. To participate, one throws a disc (Frisbee) toward a basket. It’s not necessary to keep score, but if you do, you count the number of throws until the disc ends up in the basket. It is played on a course designed for this purpose. While enjoying the sport, the participant gets low-impact exercise using high-amplitude movements.
There are three courses in Sahuarita. The Veteran Municipal Park across Old Nogales Road from the entrance to Quail Creek has a course that is easy to walk even when using a walker. After the weather cools a bit here in Arizona, we plan to schedule a day and time to meet at the park to give it a try. An instructor will be on hand to give us pointers. Discs will be available to try. You can find the course map and a scorecard on the U-disc app. Congratulations to Al G. for scoring a hole-in-one (or should I say basket-in-one?) in the Parkinson’s Activity Center.
